Perhaps they could print T-shirts that say “Frankie Say RELX”. The new name for Reed Elsevier will take a bit of getting used to, even if it is made up of bits of the group, such as LexisNexis and Reed Exhibitions.

Less controversial is the restructuring that will get rid of the complicated cross-shareholding and the peculiar ratio between the number of shares quoted in London and Amsterdam, which will instead be 1:1, with the assets of the company going into one entity jointly held by the UK and Dutch parents.

The intention is to even out the inexplicable discount at which the Dutch shares trade against the London price. UK shareholders will see little difference, save that name change.
